August Rush – Freddie Highmore plays a young musical prodigy searching
for his parents (Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell), who were
unwittingly separated from him following his birth. Robin Williams
co-stars as Wizard, who has big plans for the talented youngster.
Enchanted – Junebug’s Amy Adams plays a fairytale princess thrust into the real world, namely Manhattan, by the spell of a wicked queen (Susan Sarandon). Though she’s promised to a perfect prince (James Marsden) in her storybook world she finds herself falling for a flawed but good-intentioned divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey).
Hitman – Based on the popular video game of the same title, this actioner centers around a genetically engineered assassin known by number, Agent 47, rather than by name. 47 begins to question his ruthless work when he falls for a mysterious woman and starts to feel troubled by a conscience he didn’t know he had.
Stephen King’s The Mist – Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) is at the helm for another King tale, this time the horror master’s The Mist. Following a violent storm a thick mist filled with deadly creatures envelops a small town, prompting artist David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and other survivors to hole up in a supermarket for safety.
This Christmas – The Whitfield family gets together for the holidays for the first time in years. While wrapping presents and trimming the tree the siblings open up to each other about family secrets and emotional baggage they’ve been carrying around. Even though their bonds are tested at times they find a way to let the spirit of the season bring them together.
I’m Not There (Selected theaters) – Todd Haynes directs this unquestionably original Bob Dylan quasi-biopic, with actors including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, and Richard Gere portraying the legendary musician at various stages of his life.
